Hello John...

I am a grad student in Chemistry here at the University of Victoria.

I just completed your survey on issues that are presently a concern for

students and faculty members in chemistry, and I would just like to

commend you on this work that you are undertaking. I think it is great

idea that you are canvassing the ideas of young researchers. I hope that

you get some wonderful feedback from all of the schools.

Thank you, Sincerely yours,

B.K.

Hi Dr. Andraos,

I am a graduate student in the first year of study. I'm pleased to see your

interest in the topics you have mentioned and wish you success in your study.

Recently, I have become interested in the question of why the number of

women who choose to pursue graduate studies in chemistry is smaller then

that of men. I feel that there is a logical explanation for this disparity

and as a 'hobby' have taken to studying this situation. Most of the

research in this area is conducted in the united states and I'm finding if

difficult to find Canadian data. You mentioned in your cover letter that

you've completed a study of the demographic in chemistry in Canada. Is that

data available somewhere?

I'm still in the preliminary stages of studying this topic if there is any

insight that you may be able to provide from your experiences I would

appreciate it. Thanks for your time and good luck with your study.

Dr. Andraos,

I had the opportunity to look at your web site this afternoon. It was

fantastic. I also have a page that offers advice about choosing a grad

school. Of course it comes from a student perspective.

I've added a link to your page on my web site. Thanks for your work in this

area. I look forward to meeting you at the CSC in Vancouver this year.

Cheers,

Dear John,

Thank you for the password. I'm trying to send the feedback form for the

third time now, hopefully it will get through. I'd like to add that I do

find the web site really very helpful (I'm in the process of looking for an

academic position), and I appreciate your taking the time to put it

together.

Sincerely,

K.P.

Hello Dr. Andraos,

I would like to personally thank you for your informative

session in Ottawa.  You have actually renewed my faith in getting a career

in research, particularly in Canada.  I am forever grateful for that.

And don't change a thing... you managed to touch base on a great deal of

concerns that I and other graduate students have regarding our futures

after graduation, specifically, how to approach the job market.

On behalf of the GCOC, I look forward to seeing you in Montreal.  Best

regards,

S.H.
